Mental health counseling
There are many different psychotherapeutic approaches in counseling. Rod prefers to use the behavioral approach. What does this mean? Not only are we a product of our environment, but we also shape and change our environment. When events in our lives seem to turn against us, when we feel powerless to affect the change that can better our lives, we need to work with someone who can help us to see the strengths that lie inside all of us. In behavioral therapy the client and therapist work together to re-discover those strengths and agree to the actions the client needs to take in order to feel healthier, happier, and to be able to cope with life’s challenges.
Rod works with couples who are struggling in their relationship and with communication. Many people today confront depression and anxiety and Rod counsels people to overcome these feelings. Loss and grief are very much a part of our lives. Rod’s work in hospice and bereavement qualifies him to help people trying to cope with grief.
Rod’s rates range from $85 to $125 per therapeutic hour.
Divorce mediation
After a couple has decided to divorce, they are faced with a daunting task – finding lawyers and proceeding with the divorce itself. A divorce can be a very costly and a very litigious process.
Divorce mediation is a viable alternative. A third-party neutral mediator helps the couple to work together and come up with a plan that both parties can agree to. Rather than fighting and arguing, cooperation is the goal. Rather than focusing on problems, mediation leads to solutions. Rather than there being a winner and a loser, in mediation, ideally both parties win because they have agreed together on the solutions to the problems.
Rod has a certificate from Rutgers after the required training and is a member of the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators. Rod’s hourly rate begins at $250.
Psychological evaluation for marriage annulments
As a licensed clinical social worker, Rod is designated by the Tribunal of the Diocese of Camden to be its “Court Peritus.” In the Roman Catholic faith, a Catholic cannot be sacramentally married if he/she has entered into a previous marriage. A Catholic petitions the Tribunal to see if the previous marriage can be annulled. The Tribunal relies on the testimony of witnesses, including the two partners of the previous marriage. On occasion, the Tribunal requires a psychological evaluation by a court expert as it gathers the necessary date to determine if a marriage can be annulled.
Rod has been performing these specific psychological evaluations since 2010 for the Diocese of Camden and for other local dioceses. The rate begins at $125.
